Last year I designed ‘Green Loop’, a participative arts and environment project for Fylde Council which has now been awarded funding from Arts Council England. The fantastic Nerissa Cargill Thompson is Lead Artist on the project and Fylde Council are now looking for TWO emerging Craft Artists to assist Narissa delivering a series of workshops. Please check out and share full details of the opportunities and application deadline below:

Role: Art & Environment ‘Green Loop’ Support Craft Artist

Contract Type: Freelance Fixed Fee

Contract Timescale: 9th March – 29th June 2022

Contract Hours: Minimum of 7.5 days of selected/agreed workshop dates (Wednesdays) across the duration of the project programme (except school holidays)

Contract Fee: £1,125 inclusive of expenses

Closing Date: Sunday 20th February 2022 – 5pm

Fylde Council are looking to appoint two emerging craft artists to provide creative support during the delivery of the engagement strand of ‘Green Loop’ an Arts Council funded art & environment community project.

The support artists role will be to work as part of a team, alongside a professional lead artist Nerissa Cargill Thompson project participants and partner organisations in a workshop programme which uses the coastline as a stimulus to research, design, create and retail a limited-edition, sustainable & ethically produced range of wearable or home accessories made from recycled materials inspired by the plastic waste found in the Ribble Estuary.

The artist role will be to assist aspects of project research and support the participants to practically apply ideas, develop skills, and retail their outputs online and at the Green Loop Eco Makers Markets which will take place in April and June 2022. The artist(s) will provide additional capacity and support in the monitoring and evaluating of participant progress. Artists will be welcome to attend training sessions with participants on branding, marketing and online selling which will be delivered by project partner, Hopeful & Glorious.

This role would ideally benefit an emerging artist wishing to expand/develop their work within a socially engaged context, with a desire to support the learning process of others and whose creative practice or experience includes (or is transferrable) to textiles/jewellery/3D design and/or web/digital/branding.

The working pattern across the programme is to be negotiated and will be based on the creative discipline of the successful artist(s) selected.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Green Loop is comprised of two additional, thematically linked strands: -

• An artist commission created by Nerissa Cargill Thompson will explore the environmental impacts of plastic waste through a series of artworks created both using and inspired by litter found in the River Ribble. Nerissa will collaborate with the local business sector to develop an exhibition trail to be hosted by the participating businesses, along Fylde’s high streets, bringing greater awareness of the human impact on the local environment looking at the legacy of such waste and alternative choices.

• Green Loop Eco Makers Markets will be co-produced by Fylde residents in collaboration with Hopeful & Glorious (https://hopefulandglorious.co.uk/) providing a platform for the launch of the communities limited edition product range. Developed with an environmental ethos, the makers market brand will be produced in line with a set of green principles and will present the opportunity for artists working towards environmental sustainability to showcase and retail their work. The markets will be hosted at Fairhaven Lake and within the newly restored Water sports Centre in April and June 2022.
